dinard four

As you leave the beach at Saint-Enogat, with the thalassotherapy Centre on your right, you will follow the jetty all the way to the beach of Le Prieuré, bypassing Dinard. You will come to the beach of Port-Riou, then of Port-Salut before comong to the headland called La Malouine. Above you stand magnificent late 19th century villas : Les roches Brunes. From here, continue in the direction of the beach, l'Ecluse. This splendid beach is the largest in Dinard, and is flanked by the casino, the Arts and Festival Centre, an Olympic-sized swimming pool and hotels. At the end of the beach on your right is the Porte d'Emeraude, while on your left lies the headland called the Moulinet. From here, you will have a magnificent view over the town of Saint Malo enclosed by its granite walls, the mouth of the Rance River and the suburb of Dinard, la Vicomté, only a pleasant walk away. As you go down towards the Bill of the Vallée, on yor right, you will come to Surcouf Square overlooking the slipway where the fishing boats dock. As you continue your route, you pass in front of the aquarium, and then on to " Little Nice ". this spot is so named beceause it is protected from the northen winds, making it the warmest spot in Dinard. Benches invite you to rest a moment enjoy the exquisite perfume of the flowers before continuing along the path which overlooks the landing-stage for boats crossing from Dinard to Saint Malo. At this point begins the most famous esplanade known as the " Clair de Lune " where sound and light shows are held every evening from First July until sixth October.
You may be suprised to discover the Mediterranean vegetation which flourishes here in the mildness of Dinard's climate. At the oterh end of the esplanade is the marina, best known as " Pearl Quay ". Just before you come to the beach of Le Prieuré, you will notice several rocky grottoes ; the best known represents the grotto in Lourdes. This beach is named for the priory located here, which, can be visited on request. The oldest part of the priory dates back to the 14th Century. In the renovated chapel you can see the two recumbent figures of the Brothers De Monfort who had the priory built. The first cove after the beach is called Port-Nican. From here you can reach the parapet walkways out to the headland of the Vicomté by following the former excisemen's paths which have been turned into a promenade. From the headland of the Vicomté, the panoramic view streches from the open sea to the Rance ; facing you is Solidor Tower and the walled town of Aleth, with the Rance River Dam on your right. This is only one of the paths along the coast. You can also leave from the Frémur Bridge, that is from Saint-Briac, and return to Dinan via the banks of the River Rance ( La Richardais, Jouvente, Lalandriais, Le Minihic, etc).
