The Grounds

Welcome to Kerdeven. A beautiful 16th century Manoir and restored farm buildings with an interesting history! The main house was constructed around 1550. Locals tell of an underground tunnel between the Manoir and a local farm 2 km away over the hills. Supposedly dug out during the French revolution,

the tunnel was said to have been used by the resident aristocracy as a safe hiding place - or quick escape route! These stories are given credence by the crest above the Gothic doorway where the family Coat of Arms was said to have been ‘effaced’ by the revolting peasants! In later years Kerdeven became a farm until the last family left and we were fortunate to discover it, deserted and in a very sorry state, whilst holidaying in Brittany ourselves in 1992.

play parkThe Manoir’s grounds extend to around 2 acres. Each cottages has its’ own quietly situated garden with an outdoor eating area and barbecue. The part of the grounds that is shared is screened by trees and shrubs and set a few steps away from the cottages to ensure your peace. Our 11 x 6 metre heated swimming pool is thoughtfully placed but easily accessible to all via a gently sloping pathway. It is suitably fenced for the safety of small children. The views from the poolside are lovely. We have integrated a shallow baby and toddler splash area, a slide for the more adventurous and sun loungers for our guests who wish simply to relax. The boules court is adjacent to the pool and, beyond this, stretches the playing field where there is plenty of space for young ones to let off steam. There is also a trampoline, table tennis table and children’s play area in the grounds.

Kerdeven is in an area of outstanding natural beauty and offers peace and tranquillity. We are on hand to help with any enquiries, but far enough away to afford privacy. Forests, lakes, rivers and the beautiful Nantes to Brest canal are within very close proximity, adding to the pleasure of country walks. There are excellent rambling routes on easy to find tracks through the woods, along river banks and quiet roads. If you fancy cycling, you will be able to explore further, on quiet country lanes with little motorised traffic. Cycles are available for hire locally. There is also available locally a choice of pony trekking centres, tennis courts and canoes for use on the Nantes to Brest canal, with its’ canoe chutes.
